SUMMIT, N.J. — Neutrogena’s parent company, Kenvue Brands LLC, has voluntarily recalled over 1,300 cases of its Makeup Remover Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes after internal testing revealed contamination with the bacterium Pluralibacter gergoviae.
The recall affects 1,312 cases of the towelettes, each containing 12 units, with each unit consisting of two 25-count packages. The affected product bears the lot number 1835U6325A and was distributed to retailers in Texas, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
Contamination Triggers Class II Recall
According to the FDA’s classification, this recall falls under Class II, which is issued for products that may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences. Although not typically life-threatening, the bacterium in question poses increased risks to individuals with weakened immune systems.
The contamination was found during a routine quality check conducted internally by Kenvue. No press release has been issued at this time, and the recall remains ongoing.
What is Pluralibacter gergoviae?
Pluralibacter gergoviae is a microorganism that can survive in cosmetic products. While generally harmless to healthy individuals, it can cause infections in immunocompromised users, particularly through breaks in the skin or mucous membranes. Its presence in cleansing towelettes raises concern, especially for facial use.

Distribution and Action
The recall, which was initiated on September 19, 2025, is limited to the four affected states. The company has notified consignees and distributors but has not issued a public alert as of October 22. The FDA classified the event on October 3, 2025, under recall number C-0001-2026.
Consumer Guidance
Consumers who have purchased the product should check for the lot number 1835U6325A. If identified, they are advised to stop use immediately and dispose of the product properly. Retailers and distributors are urged to remove affected stock from shelves and follow the company’s return procedures.
The recall only applies to the specified lot and does not affect other Neutrogena products.
