NEW YORK (Oct. 12, 2025) — Fashion is getting fiercer. More than 20 years after The Devil Wears Prada strutted into theaters, a long-awaited sequel is officially underway. Titled Cerulean, the film reunites Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci — the iconic core of the original — with fresh faces, international locations, and a storyline shrouded in high fashion secrecy.
Disney Moves Forward After Long Pause
Talk of a sequel had stalled for years. In 2013, author Lauren Weisberger penned a book sequel, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, but film follow-up rumors went cold. Streep had dismissed interest. Hathaway remained open, though only for something “totally different”.
Now, Disney, via 20th Century Studios, is pushing ahead. In July 2024, the studio greenlit development. Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna returned to the project, with David Frankel once again directing.
Star-Studded Additions and Global Filming
Kenneth Branagh joins the cast as Miranda Priestly’s husband. Other new additions include Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Rachel Bloom, and Patrick Brammall.
Production began June 30, 2025. By late July, Streep, Hathaway, and Tucci were filming scenes in New York City. Blunt followed shortly after. Brammall and Hathaway shot a pivotal scene on August 5. Sydney Sweeney appeared on set with Blunt two days later.
An important airport scene is set to be filmed at Newark Liberty International Airport on Sept. 10. Tucci and Streep were spotted filming during Milan Fashion Week on Sept. 27, embedded in the real-life Dolce & Gabbana runway show. Donatella Versace has a cameo, while Lady Gaga has officially joined the cast in an unspecified role.
Filming in Milan continues through Oct. 18.
Release Date and What’s Next
Cerulean is set for release on May 1, 2026. Despite the original cast’s initial hesitation, all key actors have signed on. The sequel’s production signals a full-circle moment for a cultural staple that helped define modern fashion cinema.
While plot details remain locked down, expectations are high. With an A-list cast, real-world fashion crossovers, and high production value, Cerulean could set a new standard for legacy sequels.
