NEW CITY, N.Y. (Oct. 6, 2025) — Sunshine, sizzling food, and the laughter of children filled the streets of downtown New City on Sunday as families and friends turned out in droves for the city’s annual street fair.
Main Street
Held on October 5, the event transformed Main Street into a vibrant hub of community spirit, live entertainment, and irresistible aromas from local food vendors. From fresh funnel cakes to gourmet tacos, the fair offered something for every taste — and every age.

Parents pushed strollers past booths selling handmade jewelry and local art. Children danced to music from a live DJ and clutched balloon animals shaped by smiling performers. Teens browsed vintage clothing racks while others stood in line for fresh lemonade and fried Oreos.
This is what New City is all about
“This is what New City is all about,” said Karen Delgado, a lifelong resident who attended with her husband and two children. “It’s fun, it’s safe, and it’s a great way to support local businesses.”

The fair featured more than 100 vendors and attractions, including a kids’ zone with bounce houses, a petting zoo, and a climbing wall. Street performers entertained crowds on every corner, while live music from local bands set the rhythm for the day.

Families sprawled out on the grassy area near Town Hall to enjoy lunch, cheer for performers, or soak in the fall sunshine. Local schools and non-profits also had booths, helping to connect residents with community resources and volunteer opportunities.

“This isn’t just a fair. It’s a chance to see neighbors you haven’t seen in months and share in something positive,” said Corey Bell, a volunteer with the Parks Department.

For many, the highlight was the food—lines formed early for jerk chicken, empanadas, barbecue, and hand-cut fries. Dessert lovers weren’t left out — vendors served up mini donuts, soft-serve ice cream, and Italian ices throughout the day.

Streets were packed
By mid-afternoon, streets were packed. Laughter echoed between buildings as families took photos and made memories.
“The energy here is just amazing,” said Lila Montgomery, who attended with three generations of her family. “We came for the food, but we’re staying for the fun.”
Organizers reported a record turnout and praised the event as a success. Local businesses also said the fair gave them a welcome boost ahead of the holiday season.

For the Rockland Daily News, I cover the arts, music, theater, nightlife, pop culture, TV, film, food and food trends, and interesting people in New York. I write two weekly columns, one about bands and one about weekend events, and I sometimes write features about (but not limited to) local history and social issues, placing both in broader contexts. My beat is generally statewide, though I tend to focus more on the Rockland County and East Coast areas.
