ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. — Detective Bernard Brown, a respected Rockland County law enforcement figure, has retired after 35 years of public service.

Brown began his career in 1990 with the Spring Valley Police Department, where he served as a patrol officer and Community Police Officer. In 1994, he joined the Village of Piermont Police Department, focusing on patrol work, criminal investigations, and community engagement. He retired from Piermont PD in 2018.

Two years later, in December 2020, Brown brought his experience to the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, joining the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) as a detective. His work there included hundreds of criminal prosecutions and multiple high-profile cases. Promoted to Group Supervisor in 2022, he helped lead daily SIU operations.

Brown’s dedication was recognized in 2023 when the Detectives Crime Clinic of New Jersey and New York named him an “Outstanding Law Enforcement Professional.”

District Attorney Tom Walsh praised Brown for his “unwavering commitment” to public safety, calling him a key figure in keeping Rockland County secure. The RCDAO also honored Brown during Black History Month, underscoring his legacy and influence.

Brown’s departure was marked with tributes from the Haverstraw Police Department Honor Guard and the Rockland County Police Emerald Society Pipes and Drums Band.

A SUNY Plattsburgh graduate with a B.S. in Business Management, Brown is a 1984 alumnus of Clarkstown High School South. His retirement closes a chapter defined by integrity, leadership, and impact.

Police work demands sacrifice, resilience, and unwavering dedication. Officers like Detective Brown embody these values through years of service that often go unnoticed but never without impact. His commitment reflects the broader mission of law enforcement—to protect, serve, and uphold justice with integrity every day.

He leaves behind a legacy that will not be forgotten.
