Tarrytown is making a major investment in affordable housing with the preservation of Franklin Towers, an 81-unit public housing development. The project, backed by $8.1 million in funding, ensures that residents continue to have access to safe and affordable homes. This initiative is part of Governor Kathy Hochul’s broader $25 billion housing plan, which aims to create or preserve 100,000 affordable units statewide.

Located within a half-mile of Metro-North train stations and Westchester County Bee-Line bus stops, Franklin Towers offers convenient transit access for residents. The funding, allocated through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program and state subsidies, will modernize the development while keeping costs affordable for renters.

Governor Hochul continues to push for federal LIHTC expansion, which could finance 100,000 additional affordable units across New York over the next decade. This move will help address the state’s ongoing housing crisis and ensure that communities like Tarrytown receive the resources they need.

As part of New York’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, Franklin Towers will receive energy-efficient upgrades to improve sustainability and reduce carbon emissions. Additionally, residents will benefit from free high-speed internet through the ConnectALL initiative, helping to bridge the digital divide for lower-income households.

This investment marks a major step in securing long-term affordability and stability for Tarrytown’s residents. By prioritizing housing preservation, modernization, and accessibility, the state is reinforcing its commitment to ensuring that every New Yorker has a place to call home.
