I spent the early hours of my morning on March 24th, 2020, photographing the Las Vegas strip during this COVID-19 situation. I am glad my photos can speak volumes to the current state of the world & my home, Las Vegas, during this challenging time.

With casinos across the country temporarily shutting down to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, operators are facing a period with zero income and a limited supply of cash.

In many cases, workers are still receiving some pay and benefits.

A recent report from Macquarie Research found that some operators have as little as five months before they run out of cash.

“U.S. gaming has been one of the hardest-hit sectors in the consumer space since the beginning of the crisis,” Macquarie Securities gaming analyst Chad Beynon said in the report. “The casino shutdown domestically coupled with high debt loads, is pushing investors to ask, how long can these balance sheets last in this current environment?”

Cash burn

Gov. Steve Sisolak ordered all Nevada casinos last week to shut down for at least 30 days. While the closures could be detrimental to Las Vegas’s economy and job market, Nevada is not the only state to temporarily shut down its gaming industry
