Brazil expects more coronavirus cases until July

The Brazilian Minister of Health estimated Friday that the number of cases of the new coronavirus in the country would continue until July, and assured that the government was doing everything to avoid the congestion of the health system. Deaths due to Covid-19 rose to 11 Friday, against six the day before, and confirmed cases to 904 against 621, according to official data.

“It is estimated that [the number of infections] will accelerate and increase in the week or the next ten days,” Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta said on Friday during a videoconference with businessmen from Brasilia, broadcast live on public television. “This rapid increase will last during April, May, and June when this increase will start to show a tendency to slow down,” he added.

Health System

The minister warned of the risk of saturation of the health system towards the end of April but assured that such a scenario could be avoided if the whole country collaborated in the national effort. “We are going to live a very stressful period, but we will overcome it without collapsing,” continued the minister.
