PGA Tour plans to resume tournaments

Like football or Baseball, the PGA Tour, the most powerful in the world of professional golf circuits, plans to resume competitions without an audience on May 21 in Texas.

The PGA Tour is considering several return-to-competition scenarios after the interruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including tournaments without audiences, Golf Digest said on Friday. In a note sent to players and consulted by the specialized magazine, the American circuit has set itself the objective of a resumption on May 21, at the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth (Texas).

The organizers say in this document hope to “preserve as many events as possible while saving time as the crisis evolves. If it is not possible to organize it on these dates due to the containment measures taken by the authorities of the United States, where the coronavirus is wreaking havoc, one option would be to postpone the start of the event to June 11. The Charles Schwab Challenge would then take its place on the Canadian Open calendar, which should be canceled.

Players warned about a month before resumption

Players will be notified three to four weeks before the resumption of competition, promised the PGA Tour. “We know that many of you are affected by travel restrictions and the inability to practice where you are, which is why we want to give you as much time as possible so that you can return well prepared,” can we read in the note.
