NANUET – The 38,000-square-foot building at 122 E. Route 59 was acquired in December by the Rhode Island-based discount retailer Ocean State Job Lot. This location was The previous Toys R Us site on Route 59, which has been vacant since the chain closed its stores in June 2018. The Nanuet location was 1 of 7 former Toys ‘R’ Us locations that company had acquired thru purchase or lease. The toy giant closed all of its stores last summer. This store will be the 2nd location in Rockland County location in addition to the New City store.
With the work to convert the building is expected to start soon, Ocean State Job Lot plans to open later this year, according to the company. When it opens the new store will employ an estimated 50 people.
The company bills itself as selling brand-name items. Including household goods, apparel, pet supplies, seasonal products, and kitchen pantry staples at closeout prices. Ocean State Job Lot owns 133 stores located throughout New England, New Jersey, and New York. It’s Known as the largest closeout retailer in the Northeast.
