Joe Biden and Bernie Sander Debate

The debate between Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders opened on the health crisis in CNN studios, without an audience, the debate between Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders logically began on the health crisis. The former vice president, to the advantage in the polls, posed as an alternative to the chaotic Leadership of Donald Trump.

Bernie Sanders Debate

While the Iowa caucus, the first stage of the Democratic nomination contest for the presidential election of November 3, was held on February 3, Rockland Daily News launches its campaign logbook. A daily update, five days a week until September, with campaign facts, political advertisements, polls, maps, and figures that allow you to follow and experience the most crucial electoral competition in the world.

The fact of the day

Initially scheduled in Phoenix, in one of the four states which will vote on Tuesday, Arizona (with Florida, Ohio, and Illinois), the debate was relocated as a precaution, in the studios of the CNN Studios in Washington, without the public who usually contribute to the electrical environment. The last two candidates, Joe Biden, and Bernie Sanders settled at the agreed distance of six feet (nearly two meters) from each other, after soberly greeting each other.

The debate, as predicted, opened on the health crisis giving the opportunity to the two men to at once distance themselves from the President of the United States. While the latter devotes a good part of his interventions to the celebration of his action and the competence of the team which surrounds him, the former vice-president and the independent senator of Vermont first addressed victims of the pandemic.

Joe Biden Debates

“My thoughts are with all those who suffer from coronavirus,” said Joe Biden at once before Bernie Sanders followed him with the same empathy. “We have to silence this President now. It is unacceptable to hear it spouting on non-factual information, which disturbs the Americans, ” he continued.

Delicate Debate Position

Bernie Sanders was in a sensitive position on Sunday evening. He is outdistanced by the former vice-president in terms of already counted votes and especially of delegates, with no clear prospects of reversing the trend. He is the victim of a useful vote by a critical mass of voters who believe that Joe Biden is better placed to defeat Donald Trump in November. The threat posed by the coronavirus pandemic added to the difficulty.

Often confused and stammering during the last debates, Joe Biden has indeed posed as an alternative to the chaotic management of Donald Trump, evoking his experience as vice-president faced with similar crises, forcefully launching a call for general mobilization. “We are at war against this virus,” he said before repeating a little later: “It is as if we were attacked. In a war, you do whatever is necessary to take care of your people. Everything you need to manage this crisis would be free paid for by American taxpayers.” When asked whether he would call on the military to respond to a hospital capacity problem that could arise quickly, he responded swiftly and firmly in the affirmative.

Pushing His Opponent

Coming with the explicit intention of pushing his opponent to his limits, the senator from Vermont took hold of the health crisis to pivot towards his Universal Social Security program. But Joe Biden awaited him on this point, noting that such a system existed in Italy where he had shown that it could not be a panacea. “People want us to solve their problems, not a revolution,” he continued, using one of his watchwords considered proper for the circumstances.

Two Septuagenarians

Subsequently, the senator from Vermont was more skillful by strafing his rival on votes or past positions that put him in difficulty, not recognizing that he had moved on specific points. The evocation at certain passionate points of a sometimes-old past of more than three decades had the main disadvantage, however, of recalling the age of the arteries of the two septuagenarians.

Women Vice President

In the end, Joe Biden spared the considerable blunder that the opposing camp hoped for. He even created the surprise by announcing without waiting for the outcome of the Democratic Primary, in case he won the nomination, that he would choose a women candidate for the vice-presidency, thirty-six years after Geraldine Ferraro. “Many women have the qualities to become presidents in the future,” he added. Bernie Sanders, perhaps taken aback, gave the impression of following him by assuring him that he would “very probably” do the same.

The Survey of the day

Democrats and Republicans do not have the same attitude to the threats posed by the coronavirus, according to a survey by Quinnipiac University published on March 9, before the declaration of a state of national emergency by Donald Trump. Republicans are significantly less alarmist than Democrats. They also overwhelmingly approve the management of this crisis by the President of the United States (87% against only 10% of Democrats). All the people questioned disapproved of it (49% against 43% who thought the opposite).

Today’s tweet

Deprived of Rally’s due to coronavirus, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders tried virtual conversation to address the management of this health crisis. Unsurprisingly, the senator’s perfectly trained campaign team from Vermont was able to achieve this when the intervention of the former vice-president suffered from serious communication problems.
