Ten playgrounds in the NYC parks are being closed

New York City – Ten playgrounds in city parks are being closed. Local people keep going into them and ignoring the social distancing guidelines. Mayor Bill de Blasio had threatened to close playgrounds but had hoped that people would listen to warnings.

 They didn’t, so The mayor mandated that among those being locked now, are two in Staten island’s clove lakes park, another playground in Queens, Watson Gleason playground in the Bronx, the Fort Tryon, Jacob Javits, and Raul Wallenberg’s playgrounds in Manhattan two in Fort Greene park Brooklyn and two more in Middleton and Brighton.

List of all Facility Closures

All NYC Parks Recreation Centers – closed to the public until further notice.

All-City nature centers – closed until further notice.

Basketball court rims removed at locations where repeated attempts at social distancing have not been successful.

NYC’s tennis season – The season delayed until further notice. Tennis courts: currently closed to tennis play, and tennis permit sales have- suspended for the 2020 season. If you have already bought a tennis permit, it will be valid through 2021.

The City’s historic houses: closed.

Roger Morris Park, Dyckman Farmhouse Park, and Queens Farm Park: closed.

The City’s marinas: closed.

The Swedish Cottage: closed.

As a precaution, the High Line: closed.

The Arsenal Gallery: closed through April 12.

At this time, many concessions are closed, including ice skating rinks, amusement parks, and carousels, golf courses, indoor tennis facilities, souvenir shops, and more.

Some concessions, such as gas stations, farmers’ markets, snack bars/restaurants that provide take out or delivery, and some food carts will remain open and practice social distancing.

For the health and safety of the horses, stables will remain operational but closed to the public.

Programming Cancellations

In response to the State and City’s directive, all public gatherings in our parks: canceled through April 22, 2020. In the interest of the health and safety of all our patrons, NYC Parks is not accepting, nor reviewing, event applications for any Special Events or Field and Court Permits currently.

Shape Up NYC programs

All Shape Up NYC programs: canceled until further notice. Please follow Shape Up NYC on Facebook for news on upcoming free online fitness opportunities.

Urban Park Ranger programs: canceled.

All tournaments and sports practices: canceled.

All dedicated events held in recreation: canceled.

NYC Parks Stewardship: postponed until further notice.

Programming Service Changes

Street Games, initially scheduled for April 25, has been postponed.

GreenThumb community gardens: closed to the public until further notice. Gardens are open to garden members only at the discretion of each group, and only for necessary maintenance and season preparation.
